[15] 영어성경공부 - 창세기 13장 8~18절 (롯과 아브람이 서로 떠남)

[성경 본문]

창13:8

So Abram said to Lot, "Let's not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers.

아브람이 롯에게 이르되 우리는 한 친족이라 나나 너나 내 목자나 네 목자나 서로 다투게 하지 말자

 

창13:9

Is not the whole land before you? Let's part company. If you go to the left, I'll go to the right; if you go to the right, I'll go to the left."

네 앞에 온 땅이 있지 아니하냐 나를 떠나가라 네가 좌하면 나는 우하고 네가 우하면 나는 좌하리라

 

창13:10

Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered, like the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)

이에 롯이 눈을 들어 요단 지역을 바라본즉 소알까지 온 땅에 물이 넉넉하니 여호와께서 소돔과 고모라를 멸하시기 전이었으므로 여호와의 동산 같고 애굽 땅과 같았더라

 

창13:11

So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company:

그러므로 롯이 요단 온 지역을 택하고 동으로 옮기니 그들이 서로 떠난지라

 

창13:12

Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom.

아브람은 가나안 땅에 거주하였고 롯은 그 지역의 도시들에 머무르며 그 장막을 옮겨 소돔까지 이르렀더라

 

창13:13

Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

소돔 사람은 여호와 앞에 악하며 큰 죄인이었더라

 

창13:14

The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.

롯이 아브람을 떠난 후에 여호와께서 아브람에게 이르시되 너는 눈을 들어 너 있는 곳에서 북쪽과 남쪽 그리고 동쪽과 서쪽을 바라보라

 

창13:15

All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever.

보이는 땅을 내가 너와 네 자손에게 주리니 영원히 이르리라

 

창13:16

I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.

내가 네 자손이 땅의 티끌 같게 하리니 사람이 땅의 티끌을 능히 셀 수 있을진대 네 자손도 세리라

 

창13:17

Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you."

너는 일어나 그 땅을 종과 횡으로 두루 다녀 보라 내가 그것을 네게 주리라

 

창13:18

So Abram moved his tents and went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron, where he built an altar to the LORD.

이에 아브람이 장막을 옮겨 헤브론에 있는 마므레 상수리 수풀에 이르러 거주하며 거기서 여호와를 위하여 제단을 쌓았더라

 

[문장 분석]

 

창13:8

So Abram said to Lot,

그래서 아브람 말했다 ~에게 롯

"Let's       not have any quarreling between you and me,

우리~하자 않다 가지다 아무 다툼             ~사이    너   그리고 나

or between your herdsmen and mine,             for      we are brothers.

또는 ~사이    너의 목동들    그리고 나의 목동들, 왜냐하면 우리 ~이다 형제들

 

창13:9

Is not        the whole land before you?

~이지 않냐  그    온        땅   ~ 앞에   너

 

Let's part company.

우리~하자 헤어지다 (part company는 헤어지다라는 뜻 -> part가 명사로는 '부분'이라고 쓰이고 동사로는 part가 분리하다로 사용됩니다.

 

If      you go to the left,    I'll go             to the right;

만약   너 가다 ~로 그 왼쪽  나는 갈 것이다 ~로 그 오른쪽

 

if      you go to the right,   I'll go              to the left."

만약   너 가다 ~로 그 오른쪽 나는 갈 것이다 ~로 그 왼쪽

 

창13:10

Lot looked up and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan was well watered,                like the garden of the LORD,

롯   올려보았다 그리고 봤다       그    온      평원  ~의 그   요단      이었다 상당히 물이 넉넉하다  ~처럼 그   동산    ~의 그 주님

 

like the land of Egypt, toward Zoar. (This was before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah.)

~처럼 그 땅   ~의 이집트,  ~로 향해 소알 (이것 이었다 ~전에 그   주님   멸하셨다       소돔    그리고 고모라)

 

롯은 본인이 눈을 들어 물이 넉넉한 요단 땅을 보았습니다. well watered 상당히 물이 넉넉하다로 해석하면 됩니다.

 

창13:11

So       Lot chose for himself      the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east.

그래서 롯이 택했다 ~을 위해 그 자신 그 온        평원 ~의 그    요단    그리고 출발했다 ~로 향해 그 동쪽

 

The two men parted company:

그     두   사람들  헤어졌다

 

set out은 착수하다, 출발하다로 해석하면 됩니다.

 

창13:12

Abram lived in the land of Canaan,

아브람 살았다 ~안 그  땅   ~의 가나안

 

while          Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom.

~반면(동안)  롯  살았다 ~사이에 그 도시들 ~의 그 평원 그리고 쳤다     그의 천막  ~근처 소돔

 

while은 ~하는 동안, ~하는 반면(대조)에 이렇게 해석하시면 됩니다. pitched his tents 텐트를 쳤다로 해석합니다.

 

창13:13

Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning       greatly against the LORD.

이제   그  사람들 ~의 소돔   이었다 악한     그리고 죄를 짓고 있었다 크게     ~반대하여 그 주님

 

sin은 죄악, 죄를 짓다의 동사로도 쓸 수 있습니다.

 

창13:14

The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him,

그     주님   말했다 그 아브람 ~후    롯    헤어졌다      ~로부터 그

 

"Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.

들어라     너의 눈     ~로부터 그 곳 너가 있는 그리고 보아라 북 그리고 남     동 그리고 서쪽

 

from where you are은 너가 있는 그 곳에서부터로 해석 됩니다. 10절과 14절의 차이를 보시면 중요한 교훈을 얻을 수 있는데 눈을 누가 들게 했는가가 굉장히 중요하다고 생각합니다. 10절에서는 Lot looked up and saw이라고 롯이 직접 눈을 들어 보았다고 얘기하고 있지만 14절에서는 The LORD said to Abram .... "Life up your eyes ... and look ... "라고 주님께서 아브람에게 눈을 들어 보라고 말씀하고 있습니다. 구절에서 보다시피 "누가 눈을 들게 하시는가"에 대한 내용이 상당히 중요합니다.

 

창13:15

All the land that you see    I will give    to you and your offspring forever.

모든 그 땅            너가 보는  나  줄 것이다 ~에게 너 그리고 너의 자손     영원히

 

창13:16

I will make     your offspring like the dust of the earth,

나 만들 것이다  너의   자손       ~처럼 그 흙먼지 ~의 그 땅

 

so that if anyone could            count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.

~하도록 만약 누구든지 할 수 있다  세다   그 흙먼지, 그러면 너의 자손         할 수 있다 세어지다

 

창13:17

Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for           I am giving it to you."

가라 걸어라 ~통하여 그  종     그리고  횡        ~의 그    땅   왜냐하면 내가 줄 것이다 그것 ~에게 너

 

여기에서는 length는 길이(종) breadth 너비,폭(횡)을 말하며 am giving은 현재 진행형의 미래표현으로 보면 되며 주로 약속 등 확정된 표현에 쓰인다고 보시면 됩니다.

 

창13:18

So       Abram moved his tents and       went to live near the great trees of Mamre at Hebron,

그래서  아브람   옮겼다  그의 천막들 그리고 갔다 살려고 ~근처  그   큰      나무들 ~의 마므레 ~에 헤브론, 

 

where he built an altar to the LORD.

거기서 그  쌓았다 한 제단 ~향해 그 주님

 

where을 통해 Hebron 장소 부분을 부연설명해줍니다.
