창2:7-9

 

7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

7 여호와 하나님이 땅의 흙으로 사람을 지으시고 생기를 그 코에 불어넣으시니 사람이 생령이 되니라

 

8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.

8 여호와 하나님이 동방의 에덴에 동산을 창설하시고 그 지으신 사람을 거기 두시니라

 

9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground-trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

9 여호와 하나님이 그 땅에서 보기에 아름답고 먹기에 좋은 나무가 나게 하시니 동산 가운데에는 생명 나무와 선악을 알게 하는 나무도 있더라

 

[문장 분석]

 

7절

The Lord God formed the man / from the dust / of the ground

그 주 여호와      지으시다 그 남자      흙(먼지)으로부터           그 땅

 

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life,

그리고 불어넣으셨다 그의 콧구멍으로 숨을 

 

이 문장에서는 원래 breathed the breath of life into his nostrils를 the breath of life와 into his nostrils의 순서를 바꾼 것입니다. 

 

and the man became a living being.

그리고 그 사람 되었다 살아 있는 것

 

 

8절

Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden;

이제 그 주 여호와 두었다 동산 동쪽에 에덴에

 

and there he put the man he had formed.

그리고 거기에 그는 두었다 그 남자 그가 지으신

 

이 문장에서는 put the man (whom 또는 that) he had formed 목적격 관계대명사가 쓰였는데 목적격 관계대명사는 생략이 가능하기 때문에 다음처럼 바로 the man 다음에 he had formed의 주어 동사가 바로 나온 것입니다. 쉽게 말해 그 남자를 부연설명하기 위한 목적입니다.

 

 

9절

And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground-trees 

그리고 그 주 여호와 만들었다 모든 종류 나무들 자라다 땅에서

 

that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.

그 나무들(that) 기쁘게 했다 눈에 그리고 좋게 음식을 위해

 

여기에서는 trees that were pleasing 즉 that이 주격 관계대명사로 쓰이며 that(trees)이 기쁘게 했다라는 의미입니다.

 

In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

중간에 그 동산 있었다 그 나무 생명 그리고 그 나무 지식 선과 악에 대한

 

원래 문장은 the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil were in the middle of garden.이지만 were 동사를 중심으로 도치(순서를 바꿈)시킨 문장입니다.
